adobe stoves

THE HIGH EFFICIENCY ADOBE STOVE

The traditional built adobe stove is the healthiest and most convenient source of heat for your home.
The stove gives you the same heat as the sun, namely radiant heat. Each corner of the room feels comfortable,
and this heating does not cause any dust whirl.
The fire chamber and the so-called counter flow canals are made of refractory bricks and semi-refractory bricks.
Because we build the outside of the stove with adobe bricks and adobe plaster we can give it almost any shape,
from organically round shapes to square and modern. It is also possible to build a stove with glass doors at both
sides, ideal to build for example between your living room and dining area. Like this both are heated with only
one stove. A built-in oven is available for all the stoves, for the best pizzas and bread or whatever you like to bake.
Extended to a seating area or even a heated wall you can enjoy your stove even more, and you'll never have to
suffer again from humidity or the cold.

THE PRINCIPLE

The adobe stove works on the counter flow principle, developed in Finland by professor H.Hyyttiainen, expert in
the field of clean wood combustion. In Helsinki he is working every day to innovate and optimize the heaters
that we build in Spain. It is not so long ago that he introduced the inversed combustion, where the wood is
lit from above. This is why the combustion is even more complete and cleaner.
Another important improvement comes from Roland Voppel from "Vuurmeesters" (masters of fire) from Holland.
He developed and improved the ducts that provides the fire with extra oxygen. Because of this the heater has
a hard to improve efficiency,  well over 90%. It was him as well who came up with the ideas to build the outside                                                                 with adobe bricks and adobe plaster, and to extend the stove with seating areas or heated walls.

HOW IT WORKS

This is how the heater works. On top of the fire the flames are getting their extra oxygen, therefore the gases
burn even more complete and the temperature rises to over 1000 degrees Celsius in the upper part of the stove,
higher than in any other stove. The hot gases from the fire are forced back down again through the counter flow
channels, which gives most of their heat into the stone mass. The temperature drops to 200 degrees just
above the floor. That is also the reason why it is so interesting to extend the stove to a seating area or heated
wall, where the gases have to pass through before they leave the chimney. Like this the temperature drops to a
maximum of 100 to 130 degrees. The seating area or wall is built up with semi-refractory bricks, adobe bricks
and adobe plaster, and could as well be located in the room next door or on the next floor. When the seating area
or the heated wall is big an extractor is required, which has to operate during the combustion.
Because of the high efficiency of this stove it only needs to burn for about 1 to 1.5 hours to get 24 hours of
comfortable heat. One basket of Pine wood is enough for a day, and don't bother to buy "better" wood,
because of the high temperature of this stove the resin also burns, and this will give you more heat than
expensive wood types will.

OUR HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Next to the extremely high efficiency from well over 90% this stove is also very good for your health. Long after
the fire has gone out the heater still gives you healthy and soothing warmth, and it still does the next morning.
The humidity will remain at a comfortable level and fluctuations in temperature are minimal. Unlike almost
every other source of heat the stove does not cause any airstream, and therefore there is no dust whirl.
Not only people benefit, the adobe stove is a low-tech source of heat. Both the extraction of raw materials as
the production of the bricks hardly do any harm to the environment, and also the combustion is very complete
and clean, with very little heat is lost.
The adobe stove in fact cannot be compared with other types of stoves, it is more the most ecological
alternative for central heating. There are only two big differences. The stove doesn't require any gas or electricity
to function, and with minimum maintenance it will last for generations.
